Globus Adds Support for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage
CHICAGO—June 25, 2025 — The Globus team, responsible for developing the Globus data management and compute platform, and operated by the University of Chicago, announced that the Globus platform now supports Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Object Storage. Researchers and institutions using OCI Object Storage can now securely and reliably access, share, and automate data movement across a broad range of storage systems using Globus. This integration expands the list of supported storage options and enables seamless integration of the Globus platform with another leading cloud services provider.
Oracle validated the functionality of the Globus Amazon S3 connector for use with OCI Object Storage, ensuring compatibility and reliability for users looking to streamline their research data workflows. Organizations leveraging OCI Object Storage for data-intensive research can now take advantage of the advanced capabilities provided by the Globus platform, such as high-performance transfers, identity-based access controls, and automation tools—making data movement and sharing more efficient than ever.
“We’re excited to make it easier for Globus users to access and manage their data on OCI,” says Makoto Honda, vice president, public sector, communication & utility sales unit, cloud business unit, Oracle Corporation Japan. “By reducing manual effort, errors and delays, this integration helps researchers automate data movement and streamline research computing workflows using the performance and scalability of OCI.”
In today’s increasingly complex and heterogeneous storage landscape, supporting diverse storage options is critical to empowering the research community. With the addition of OCI Object Storage to our growing list of supported platforms, Globus continues to eliminate data silos and simplify access across on-premise, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments. The Globus team at the University of Chicago remains committed to providing researchers with the flexibility and tools they need to focus on science, not IT infrastructure.
“Globus premium connectors empower researchers by making data more accessible, manageable, and shareable—across storage systems with minimal technical friction,” says Rachana Ananthakrishnan, executive director of Globus. “Now researchers can easily incorporate data stored in OCI Object Storage into their research tasks using a familiar interface.”
